Homecoming Madness and Fall Fashion

TGIF, right?

This Friday happens to be the kick off to the University of Pittsburgh homecoming weekend! Tomorrow morning (11 AM!) is our game against Louisville. How I am ever going to get up the energy to roll out of bed by 9 AM is a mystery. Tonight we will be treated to a fireworks spectacular and a midnight boys basketball scrimmage to kick off that season. It is also my building's Fall Fest celebration up in the lounge. All of this (and the temperatures in the 40s!) has got me excited for fall and the holidays.

Who doesn't love seeing all the decorations and pea coats? I also love seeing all the fall colors. The deep reds, oranges, greens, and browns are so warm and relaxing for me. A pop of color is nice, but I always love a great, stylistic outfit that isn't blown over the top by its colors. Autumn is a great fashion season in my opinion.

P.S. See that image up there? My first creation with Polyvore. :) Late bloomer...I know!

Happy Homecoming Pitt students!

Holly Golightly Costume

Good day, everyone!

Today was a self proclaimed mental health day. That's right...classes were skipped in an attempt to calm down, give myself a little break (that comes but once a semester!) and work on an essay due tomorrow (any good time management techniques out there?) Anyway, two pages into the essay I decided to take a bus down to South Side Works and hunt out the components for my Halloween costume this year. That's right, I have finally committed to dressing as the lovely and hilarious Holly Golightly! That's Audrey Hepburn's iconic character from the film Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I loved the fact that I did not have to step one foot inside of the Halloween store and drop $50 for something that I will only wear once! I had the shoes (black pumps are essential anyway!) the jewelry, and would you believe that I already had the cigarette holder from a stage role a few years ago?! All I needed to buy the gloves and hairpiece which were a combined $25 at Claire's and the dress. The dress caused me the biggest headache. What does it say about society that I the only place I could find at full length black dress at BCBGMAXAZRIA which was 110% out of my budget. In one last, desperate attempt I wandered into H&M not expecting much. Then there it was! A black dress that came at least to my knees and was priced at $15! Not one to test fate, I snatched it up right away. It may not look exactly like the iconic dress that Audrey wore, but it is tasteful and looks great with all of the accessories!

Weekly Pins

Another week gone by. My first college exam has passed. Should I be delighted or concerned that I finished it in a solid 20 minutes? I suppose we shall find out within the next week. Anyway, I have successfully caught up on my pinning after spending most of my week in the library with my nose buried in textbooks, up to my ears in notes on the American Revolution. It is with pride I present to you this week's pins.

We will start making plans to rush home to our families and making up our Christmas lists and scrambling to grab a hold of a job for the holidays. Enjoy your Friday, everyone!

Education in Campus Fashion

So I it has been exactly a month that class has been in session here at the University of Pittsburgh and there is a lot that I have learned, both in the classroom and outside of it.

Along with living in this region I have learned that it rains a lot in the city of Pittsburgh, and also gets cold a bit earlier than it does back home. Needless to say, I travel with an umbrella EVERYWHERE!! One thing that seems to be common essential for all the girls here is rain boots. I have never been a fan of rain boots. I hate walking around in them; I have ever only owned one pair. That being said, I have seen some cute pairs walking around this campus. Maybe they will inspire me to invest in a pair.

I have also been very nervous about wearing my heels around campus and to class. I know that in high school if you came clacking your heels into the room instantly people would turn around and look at you like you just massacred at large group of people. But I have observed a great mix of heels and flats around here and no one shows a bit of annoyance at the sound of a pair of pumps walking into the lecture hall.

The ultimate lesson I am learning here is: no one really cares what you look like here. It is not like high school. There is such a mix of style; some people dress down for class to be comfortable because they have a day spent rushing from building to building or because they had just pulled an all-nighter preparing for a big Biology exam. I has made me more comfortable to wear what I want without people's wandering eyes judging me.

Re-awakening

SORRRRRYYYYYY!!!!

It has been quite some time hasn't it? Pretty sure it's been at least a solid week since I have updated this blog. Good reason: lots and lots of fun (not!) school work. How exactly am I supposed to bust out 10 pages about my childhood between the ages of 6 and 12? I don't know but I have to "make it work!" (Bless you, Tim Gunn, for giving me a phrase to live by!)

Anyway, I am going to try and get things moving again. I would have at least done the pins of the week. Problem: had not been on Pinterest that entire week! No one told me how "fun" college was going to be. I will try and post something more substantial later today. Just wanted you all to know that I was still alive and well.
