Obligatory Oscars Post

I will be completely honest...I didn't watch the Oscars. Don't get me wrong! I definitely would have watched it if I had a TV. Alas, my roommate and I no longer have one. But I did manage to keep semi-updated on the night's festivities--red carpet fashion in particular. I stayed up really just to see if Leo would finally get his long overdue Oscar...foiled again! However, from what I understand Matthew McConaughey was very deserving of this award this year as well. I don't know...I didn't actually see any of the nominated films. I will try to make it a point to see a bunch of them though! Hey, I do have a spring break coming up.

Fashion wise, I don't think I've seen enough of the dresses to give you my official best/worst dressed choices. However, from the pictures I did see through the night I definitely have two favorites!

 

   I loved Jennifer Garner's Oscar de la Renta fringe gown. She looked so glamorous! I also adored the color and look of the Prada dress that Lupita Nyong'o wore to the ceremony; it was very reminiscent of Cinderella for me!

My Summer Uniform

So I feel like we really have jumped right into summer. It gets hotter and hotter everyday! I need to find some appropriate dresses to wear to work because I am dying in my pants! It seems that all I wear this summer is for work and there is hardly time for me to break out my cute summer threads. During this time of year I love to wear dresses (and skirts...but I'm talking dresses here!) I have not really had a chance to go shopping but I have gotten in some browsing time. I have found three styles that I really like and want to try more of this summer: floral maxi dresses, neon dresses and high-low dresses.

Springtime has finally hit Pittsburgh and I am done wearing jeans! Enter capris, skirts, shorts and dresses! Dresses are my favorite pieces during the spring, especially after months of hiding my legs in jeans and tights--time to let those stems breathe! Here are a few dresses that I have found that are also on trend for this season. A few of these trends don't apply strictly to dresses but to keep the theme I have applied them so. These trends are black and white, stripes, sporty, lace, grey and cutouts!

Oscar Fashion: The Day After!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing weekend because it's back to work! As I am sure everyone and their mother knows, last night was the Oscars! Really...I consider it a holiday. I love watching to see how the host will do, watch the winners accept their awards, and of course I love the red carpet pre-shows - no matter how annoying some of them can be! I noticed a lot of lighter colors on the Oscar red carpet this year. Many women were seen sporting white, soft pinks and blues, and some gold. But once in awhile an actress would come in a darker black or blue gown that kept up a bit of variation. Here I thought I would give you just a couple of my favorite and least favorite gowns from the 2013 Oscar red carpet.

Let me start with my favorite gowns of the evening:

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture: I love this so much. It's so simple with minimal accessories and a pixie cut. She absolutely rocked this look. A goddess no matter what she wears.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture: LOOOOOVE IT! Really though, I don't know what it is but I absolutely adore this dress. Congrats to her for also winning Best Actress!

**I also really loved Jessica Chastain's Armani gown. She had a nice classic Hollywood look about her  that I liked.

And unfortunately, while I love these ladies in all of the films that they do, there were some gowns that I did not like:

Anne Hathaway in Prada: Nope. I don't like; I really wanted to but I just can't. I love Anne so much but  I don't think this was the best dress she (or her styling team) could've chosen. The top part of the dress is what bothered me the most.

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta: I won't beat around it (it would be difficult!)...the skirt is the reason that I don't like this dress. Skirts like this bother me. I feel like it is just too much! The color looks great on her; I just really don't like the skirt.

I thought the show, overall, was very good. This year, the Oscars put forth a theme - music in film - and the performances were spectacular. The cast of Les Miserables was fantastic, but I also loved Catherine Zeta-Jones performing "All That Jazz" from Chicago. Seth MacFarlane was a pretty good host. I thought some of the jokes were a little off, but he got through it fairly successful!

NYFW: Day 6

Hello there :)

Today was Day 6 in the series of fashion shows in New York City. Sad that it is drawing to a close, but hey, off to London next! Hopefully those shows will also be broadcast on YouTube (calculating the time difference!)

Anyway, unfortunately I was very in and out of todays shows due to the fact that I do not want to flunk out of school right away. So I did have to devote sometime to reading and essay writing. But now that all of that is out of the way I can let you know my thoughts on what I did see, supplemented with information about the other shows from my trust friend, Google.

The only shows I actually did see today were Tory Burch and Badgley Mischka. In no way did they disappoint! I absolutely loved Tory's looks. I love the fact that they were very bright and feminine and the skirts were at a very ladylike length. It was altogether a very pretty line. A lot of prints that she mixed were interesting but in a good way. :) I was in love with this look the minute the model hit the runway. I do not even know why! Usually I steer clear of yellow (not my color!)

Next up was Badgley Mischka. Boy was I salivating from the moment the lights went up. Pictured below is the final look from the runway show today. I love the color! It's kind of a grapefruit color. I love the detailing with the glittery/metallic accents. It was definitely a very good choice to end the show.

While I did not get to see them, from the pictures I have seen, Vera Wang and Jenny Packham also delivered great shows. I have seen a lot of the metallic detailing in the Packham looks. I love the colors that I am seeing from Vera as well. Get ready for tomorrow. Surely I will be buzzing after watching Michael Kors and Rachel Zoe's lines making their way down the runway.
